Hold On

The Lord has really spoken two words to me this morning!

"Hold On!"

Life is full of its ups and downs. But we must hold on to what is important to us.

(1) Jesus... If we lose sight in our faith we lose hope for all things.
(2) Love... Hold on to the love that God has put In Your heart for Him, for your mate, your kids and for your neighbor.

If we just do these two things we can change the world and ourselves. So think on these things today and be blessed.

Read Hebrews 10:19 through 12:29

“My righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved (Hebrews 10:38–39).

We come into a relationship with Jesus by believing in Him and what He did for us on the cross. By faith we enter in, and by faith we are to continue on. We are made righteous through believing. Those who do not know the Savior may have the appearance of saving faith, but they shrink back and are destroyed in times of trouble.

Those of us who truly know the Lord will continue on in our faith. We will persevere when hard times come. This does not mean that life will always be easy. No, we will face doubt and dryness at times, but if we surrender to God’s grace, we will find His refreshing fountain of faith and forgiveness. God will help us to be faithful no matter what we face.

Prayer Suggestion: Dear Lord, I surrender to Your grace. I believe Jesus died and rose again for my justification. I choose to follow You even when the hard times come.

Quicklook: Hebrews 10:32–39

An Attitude of Thankfulness

"An Attitude of Thankfulness" by Jim Burns

"Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
-1 Thessalonians 5:18
-
There is always a reason to be thankful. Notice that today's Scripture doesn't say to be thankful for all things but to be thankful in all things. Even in the most difficult of circumstances, you can find a reason for a thankful heart. I like the phrase that says, "I complained because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet." No matter what your circumstances, I believe there is a reason to be thankful. Your situation may never change, but your attitude can change and that will make all the
difference in the world.
-
Terry Fox was a Canadian distance runner who started a run from one side of Canada to the other. He ran at least 26 miles each day to raise money for cancer research. He was a cancer victim himself. He ran every mile on one leg, since his right leg had been amputated above the knee. Almost every day, a television announcer or radio newscaster would put a microphone in front of Terry and ask him how his run for cancer was going. Often exhausted and losing valuable strength, Terry would say, "I don't know about tomorrow, but God gave me another day to live and I'm thankful for each day I'm alive."
</br>
Terry didn't finish his run across Canada because he died of the dreaded disease. Yet even to the end, he remained thankful for each day and considered each one God's gift to him. With an attitude of thankfulness, he made the most of a difficult situation.

How to Win

We have these four seasons here in the USA. Not the ones you're thinking, the other ones: football, basketball, baseball, and hockey. Each has their own set of fans. They will dress funny, act funny and spend money like crazy to watch and root for their team. They will get up early to go to a game, they will take off work, even vacation to go see their team. They will buy special sports packages of programming to see all their games on TV, then they record all they can watch live and don't want anyone to tell them about the game until after they watch it on the recording. They will put decals on their vehicle, wear caps, hats and clothing with their team's logo all over them. And if they don't win their championship this year they will talk about ways their team can win the next year. What else can I say? We can see that they root for their team!

That's who I was at one time in my life. My world was around football. I think the worst fuss Jan and I have ever had was over me going to a football game. I won't tell you about that one, we remember it to well. LOL! Let's just say we have both grown a lot since those early days of married life. But, let me ask each of us something: in the time of need, what does being a sports fan get us? Oh, yes, we are happy and sometimes sad. But we are always a fan! It's just something that gets us inside. It causes an adrenaline rush, our heart races, we are excited, and we even get mad if things don't go the way we think they should.

The only true "win" we have that is lasting is salvation, for then we have the right perspective on life. Things are put in order and we see what we have really needed all along, it was total peace in our hearts. We had been looking all around us, but we couldn't see it. Why? We were looking at things through our eyes.

I challenge each of us today to stop and ask for help in life. Ask Jesus to guide you and make you happy. I know He will, and He will cause you to laugh in a way you have never laughed before. Why? Because you now see there is someone who cares for you with a love that doesn't have to be bought, for he has already willingly paid the price for our happiness. How? Salvation through the cross of Calvary.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
John 3:16 NIV

So, who truly has the wining team? Those who are on Team Jesus!

My Only Hope

I fell asleep one dreary day
I lost my will, I lost my way
I ran from all I ever knew
And feared the call I was supposed to pursue.
I drank from wells set on fire
And filled my voids with unholy desires.
I dressed the part to play the role
And slowly began to lose my soul.
But, when you're down and Shadows grow
And you finally have nowhere else to go
The only way to rise again
Is from the power of an eternal friend.
Many leave when you're at your worst
When your hearts so heavy, it's about to burst
Many claim so many titles
Their efforts are futile and their time is idle
Their promises bleed through the incisions
For they can't possibly understand the mission.
Battles have been the hardest at times
And memories have played with my mind
But, I keep marching like any good solider would
Even though most of the time I am misunderstood.
I keep on fighting the forces and the fears,
Knowing one day he will wipe away every tear.
I keep on giving it my best even when it's not enough
For only one holds my heart when the waves get too rough.
I keep on believing that one magnificent day
I will see true glory wash away my yesterdays
I keep on believing that one marvelous day,
I will see the gates of my destiny enrapture my today.

Children, You Need to Eat Your Veggies!

I will never forget when our oldest daughter was just a baby. We were trying to get her to eat some green peas. You know, the English peas? And you know they had to be good. Gerber baby food made them! (LOL) But she would make a face that was so ugly! She would turn her head and spit them right out. Then she would just shake her head & you knew the fight was on!  We would try to mix them up with fruit, tapioca pudding, but she still knew those green peas were in there. She was determined not to eat them at all. I also have this friend, that if he goes to eat lunch with me you can bet he will get double French fries if he can, he will not get any green beans or peas. I know one person who says," if it's green it can't be good for you!" To me this is funny because I love Veggies. But I love some I don't need, like corn, black eyed peas, and more corn you see these were the only thing I thought were Veggies until I met my wife so many years ago! I did not understand they were a starch and helped to give me some "southern fat handles". She knew Veggies as Brussels sprouts (I call them little cabbages), broccoli and the like. She would say, "honey, this is what is healthy for you!" I still say Bah Humbug!!!!! I do eat them and love them much, I don't eat as much of the other as I use to - they tend to make me gain weight because I don't burn it off as easy as I once did.

Why all this talk about green stuff that is healthy?

It's the same way in our walk with Jesus, there are many things easy to grab a hold to in His Word, but then there are many things we need that our flesh does not want to hear. There are many things He tells us to turn away from, but our flesh wants to hold on too. But if we do it will pull us down. I was reading one of my devotional books this morning by Oswald Chambers . He said these words:

"Salvation does not mean merely deliverance from sin or the experience of personal holiness. The salvation which comes from God means being placed into perfect union with Him."

For this to take place there must be total surrender by us. It's not what we want anymore, it's all about what Jesus wants of us, for we are not our own. You see, we may not like certain foods, but it doesn't mean they're not good for us. Sometimes we have to learn to eat healthy, and we have to do the same with the Word of God. There are some things we don't want to hear or obey but if we don't we won't be spiritually healthy. My friend, that is a disaster waiting to happen! It will mess us up in a heartbeat. The Word of God is a package deal. It is a complete Book to teach us to be a complete person. So, I beg of you today: eat your Veggies and study your Bible then you will know true health.

My God Never Changes, We Do

I think the older I get, the more I think back on my childhood. When I was younger I just wanted to forget my childhood, but I like to think more on the good than the bad now days. Yes, we've talked about bad things that I had to deal with and they were bad. I didn't want to move when we had to leave the farm. Didn't want to have to make new friends, didn't want to live in town or go to a new school. But I had to move, and boy was it cold that winter day for South Georgia. We moved using trucks from my uncle's meat packing plant. That was different to, they had ridges in the floor and stuff would get caught in them when we would try to get the stuff out the truck. I remember when we pulled out from our farm there was excitement in my mind about a new adventure to come. But at the same time, I didn't want to leave, I loved that farm and do to this day.

I think we can be the same way with our faith in our Lord. We want to think back on when we got saved and how grand it was to be changed from who we used to be. The freshness that has come over us and we could just stay there all our lives. But we must move on to grow the way God wants us too. It's that way in all of life. We can't stay a child forever or stay on the same playing field we were on as a kid. We must see God never changes but we must grow up and be all that He has called us to be. He has a plan for each of us!

"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now, we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
 1 Corinthians 13:11-13 NIV

Can I challenge us today? Life has caused some to love more and caused some to hate a whole lot more. I challenge each of us, regardless of where our lives have carried us, let us love one another as Christ so loves us!

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
 John 3:16 NIV

I don't care where life takes you, Jesus is there with you. Yes, through the good and the bad. He is there to teach us all that we need to know, to be the person He has called us to be. So today think on these things, our Lord changes not, but we do.

Peace

As we watch and listen to things going on around the world there are many thoughts about what will bring peace. Sunday night after church as usually I could not go to sleep. So, I turned on the TV, I was watching a show AMC it was about Noster Dominus' he is a so called prophet. But let me make it clear, he is NOT a prophet of our Lord! But there are many people looking about End Times and what will happen and when will it happen. Boy, have they come up with a lot of ideas.

With this same crowd of people you have the "Doom's dayers" they think they will be able to survive the time of judgement on this earth. It was funny as they showed pictures of the old fallout shelters we used to have in the 60's. As I watched these shows I told my wife: "Honey, it is funny how people can put their trust in all these things and not believe in the Lord Jesus."

People are hunting peace in so many places but they are mostly in the wrong places. Isaiah still tells the truth on peace!

"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." Isaiah 26:3 NIV

He says," minds are steadfast because they trust in the Lord!" Now that's a thought! People trust Jesus and not themselves. As I sit here typing this blog I hear the birds singing all around our home inside and out. Our parakeets are happy and so are all the birds of the wild that we feed. There is peace around our home and even the birds know it. Why? Because Jesus is in control of all and that's a fact.

There are so many things the enemy of our soul wants us to worry about, but what good is it going to do?" We will never have peace with a worried filled heart. I challenge you to lay your worry down and pick up God's peace. For if we truly believe in Him then why worry about life? Are we to be foolish? NO, but we can trust and obey so we can truly be happy in our Lord. That's our problem though we want to figure out everything and not walk by faith. If we are going to have PEACE we must have FAITH for the two go hand and hand. So today stop and listen to the birds they will teach you something, if you will listen.

Blessings,
Pastor

People Need the Lord

In the hour we live people are not much different than any other. They are people!!! I laugh a lot when I hear all the commentaries on the news or read an article online. Everyone has an opinion on everybody and everything. Boy at the things people will say and do. And now, Hollywood thinks it has the answers to our nation's problems. Now, that's a laugh! To, me time is time just as Solomon said:

"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace." Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 NIV

It is sad how people want to think they can do what they want, talk bad about everybody, tell others what they think needs to be done, but can't even see their own needs. That's why Jesus came to this earth! People need the Lord! He is the only one that truly is the true and knows the Truth.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?" Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:1-6 NIV

I remind us today, it is only Jesus who holds all truth and power. He came for one reason and that was to teach us what the truth really is. He loves us and wants the best for each of us. So, I plead with mankind this day:

"In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken." Isaiah 40:3-5 NIV

Please hear the word of the Lord. Allow His Spirit to speak to you and He will prepare you for each day of life and for eternity.

Blessings,
Pastor

Give It Up!

Have you ever had something on your mind and just couldn't shake it? Well, that is me this morning. There have been so many people that have come to my mind to pray for. As I was meditating on this, it grabbed my heart. So many say," what am I to do?" Their minds are overloaded, stuff is weighing them down, some feel like their sinking in to a hole of despair. Well, praise God! I have an answer for you!

Cast your burden on the LORD, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved. (Psalm 55:22) (NKJV)

It's amazing of how we think that we can out-think The Lord. We will sit around and just think on things, thinking we have the answer. But do we? Is it our thinking that we need or God's? Paul says these words to us:

"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you." Philippians 4:8-9 (NKJV)

The greatest thing we can ever do is learn from Jesus. As we do, His Spirit will guide us through life one day at a time. He truly knows our every need and He knows how it needs to be done. He sees everything- I'm glad He can- if it were left up to me I would most likely mess it up. So many times I have heard these words as I've prayed: "Son, I have this- just trust and wait on me." I argue, "But Lord, I want to help!" But I have learned that sometimes your best help is to WAIT on His timing. So today, stop being anxious and wait on the Lord. Cast your burden on Him and He will give you true PEACE.

Blessings,
Pastor
